Planning for a wedding is such an exciting and unique time for each couple. They get to pick out which color scheme suits their day best, what each of them will be wearing, what food will be served, as well as so many other choices. On top of all of those other decisions, where they choose to hold their wedding can be one of the most impactful decisions they make for their day. Every venue has the ability to create such a specific environment that can be so completely different than other potential options. There are so many different options for Black Hills wedding venues: indoor places, adventurous locations focused on nature, more boho choices, as well as places that pride themselves on their simplicity and comfort appeal.
Honestly, there really is a place out there with the ability of catering to so many different types of couples. So, with all of that in mind, I’ve put together a handful of my absolute favorite Black Hills wedding venues to use as a backdrop for your elopement (or wedding).
“With its simplistic modern farmhouse style, the Barn At Aspen Acres is a indoor/outdoor multi-use venue located on 40 acres of vast, rolling prairie outside of Spearfish, South Dakota. Including breathtaking panoramic views of the Northern Black Hills, the building is an approximately 8,000 square feet with a 4,900 square foot open-air banquet hall. The inside features several stunning chandelier fixtures, numerous windows, and large doors to enhance our clean, spacious concept and allow clients to flow in and out throughout their celebration.”
The barn is a perfect venue if you are looking to get married either indoors or out. With their gorgeous giant windows overlooking the Hills, their classy, white-barn aesthetic, as well as the chandeliers stealing the show with every moment you look up at them, it’s definitely a great option for those that are looking for a new take on a classy yet timeless location. On top of that, their acres and acres of land make for a perfect location to spend the evenings out playing yard games with your loved ones, or for having dinner under the stars. It is a location that could serve you so well for your small, intimate wedding, or for you to invite the entire family to (after all, they can seat up to 400 people!)
“This land has been so ruthlessly ravaged by wind and water that it has become picturesque. The Badlands are a wonderland of bizarre, colorful spires and pinnacles, massive buttes and deep gorges. Erosion of the Badlands reveals sedimentary layers of different colors: purple and yellow (shale), tan and gray (sand and gravel), red and orange (iron oxides) and white (volcanic ash).”
Black Hills & Badlands
The Badlands are so remarkably different from any other area in the Black Hills. The beauty of its expanse has a way of creating this sense of being just the two of you, which can be so romantic and symbolic as you promise yourself forever to the person you love. From the colors of the rocks, to the random prairies throughout the park, there really is nothing quite like it anywhere else. I really think there isn’t much of a better place to feel how love your big is, in a world that is so much bigger and broader than we will every truly grasp.

“A little bit of camping…a little bit of glamping! Beneath the Pines was born from our love of camping and nature mixed with our creative spirit. We provide complete set up and take down of our styled bell tents. All you need to do is show up and make some memories. The goal for Beneath the Pines is to offer an experience to “unplug” and be present with the environment around you all while camping comfortably. We currently have a partnership with the Spearfish City Campground.”

Okay, so all honesty? I am in LOVE with Beneath the Pines (I mean, I love all of these locations, but the owners of this business? So great). They mainly work out of the Spearfish City Campground, but are available to set up their glamping tents in so many other gorgeous locations!
Just imagine, getting married to your best friend in front of a gorgeous, boho-dream tent, and then spending the evening cuddling up to your love in front of a fire, wrapped up in the comfiest blankets, listening to the sounds of the nature outside while falling into new becoming-one-ness of being married to your favorite person. They are all inclusive, are so accommodating, and are so great at helping you to plan your perfect elopement in their beautiful tents.

“The store is inspired by the necessities carried in early century general stores, yet with an abundance of modern-day appeal—a careful mix of old and new. It is located in a century old building on Main Street in Piedmont, SD. At one time general stores and mercantiles were scattered through the Piedmont area. We have the opportunity to authentically bring life to a special building in this historic community. What a pleasure.”

Alright, so admittedly, this one is a little bit of a stretch. Yes, this is a general store, but after doing some deep diving into them, you can find that they’ve held gatherings, baby showers, and so a handful of other get-togethers in their garden. String lights hanging overhead, vines crawling up the walls and fence behind you, Willow General store is the dream venue for an elopement looking for a cozy, home feeling. On top of that, if you or your loved one want a little something to keep the memory of your venue even more alive, you can feel free to browse around in their adorable, amazingly curated store, too.
Once again, there are so many potential wedding venues within the Black Hills, and there’s definitely something for each and every wedding.
As a wedding photographer that’s absolutely in love with the place I live, I feel so blessed to have the chance to know of so many different Black Hills wedding venues, and having the chance to potentially work within them and help them create the most perfect day for you, it’s such a blessing to me. I hope I have been able to help you narrow down your search just a tiny bit. If you are interested in learning more about me (and potentially talking! It never hurts to reach out!), feel free to send me a message here. I can’t wait to hear from you! I hope that I have been able to open your eyes to some beautiful, new locations.
